Entering the VR realm

I have had the Meta Quest 2 for a few years, did the normal oh thats cool stuff on day one. Then it turned into my sons Gorilla Tag device.

I was sitting there the other night and was like you know what I want to do some VR Golf. Boot it up and its all beat to hell, scratched, speakers are blown out.

So I sat back and was like should I give VR another go? Is this something I seriously could find myself doing?

After answering those questions to myself. I decided to go grab an Xbox Edition Meta Quest 3S.

Opening it up, I’m immediately drawn to the sleek design and color way of this model. It comes with an Xbox Controller, however not too sure i’ll ever really use it.

After setting it up and downloading the essentials, Golf+, Beat Saber, RDP, Youtube etc. I immediately jump into Golf+. Played it for about an hour and a half and really enjoyed myself. I immediately start thinking, how can I record, share, or maybe even stream this VR content.

I go to bed thinking about how I can set this up and what I would need to do to make it work. Not only that, but thinking if it would be something of any type of production value? Could it be watchable?

The next day, I connect the device to my desktop and mac book. The remote desktop feature is amazing, and I could easily see myself working on some larger items in VR. Will need to play with this more. I reconfigure some of my Studio/Office to allow for VR gaming. I spin the Digital Camera 180 degrees. I setup an OBS scene with a greenscreen affect. I try to turn my Pod mic around and use that to record my voice. The first few recording sessions did not go so well. I got a little discouraged, but didnt give up hope that I could make this work. Not only just make it work, but make it viewable. I solve the mic issue with my DJI wireless mic that I use for my sons baseball games. I bluetooth it to the computer and set it as a mic input. The other issue I would need to solve is the battery life. On the first night I burned through about 85% of the battery in about 1.5hrs. Granted I was doing a lot of setup and downloading and playing. But if I want to stream or record gameplay for longer than an hour and a half I’d need to figure it out. Initially I just grabbed a long USB a to USB c cable and plug it into a 10,000 mAH portable battery pack. However in the future I may utilize the outlets in my ceiling and use a cable pull or carabiners to keep the cable up and out of the way. But for now its essentially a proof of concept. I was ready to record. I booted up Golf+ and did a quick nine. The result was this video that I uploaded to my Youtube channel here: https://youtu.be/RTvlrr0SYFg?si=GJtCDT9n-N6-KLDO

With all that said, im interested to see how it will look while livestreaming.
I have yet to hit go live, as its been a busy week with school starting and such. But I am very interested in giving it a try. The only thing that I keep thinking about now, is how I would be able to monitor my chat while I’m live. But we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

Now the Battlefield 6 beta has started today, and if I find any time to myself this week/weekend my time will probably be directed that direction.

However, please do keep ab eye out on my channels to witness some Live VR gaming soon.
